Audi TDI Le Mans Concept

P resented at the 2008 Geneva Auto Show and based on Audi’s gorgeous R8 street performance platform, the 500-hp AWD TDI Le Mans Concept is certainly Audi’s best effort to date at attaining true supercar status. It is certainly the first in the world to employ a V12 turbo-diesel to get there.

In terms of both appearance and performance, the Le Mans features an astounding array of new technology, including an eye-catching glass-roofed passenger compartment as well as LED taillights and headlights.

For all its technological advances, though, this road-focused ride is actually closer in temperament to the road racers that lend it its name. For the tech geeks out there, this mid-engine’s internal engine stats—83.0mm bore, 91.4mm stroke, producing a total displacement of 5934cc, all in an engine just 166mm longer than the V8 TDI—border on car-porn.
